Team Up! Team-Based Primary & Community Care in Action is a webinar and podcast series that aims to connect individuals and teams, identify tools to apply to current work underway and share experiences in team-based care across the province.

Webinar Description & Learning Outcomes

This talk is an introduction to patient engagement and team-based care. Cassy Mitchell (Engagement Leader) and Layton Engwer (Patient Partner) provide an overview of patient engagement designed specifically for the Team Up! audience. Through this interactive session, we learned about patient engagement best practices, resources and the role of the Patient Voices Network.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. To explore the why, when, and how of patient engagement
  2. An introduction to engagement best practices
  3. To introduce patient engagement resources & the role of Patient Voices Network (PVN)

Speaker Bios

Cassy Mitchell

Cassy joined the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council in October 2018 as an Engagement Leader, with the experience of being both a patient and a health care provider. She originally became involved with Patient Voices Network (PVN) as a patient partner, and was part of PVN’s Oversight & Advisory Council for over a year. She has a master’s degree in health and a diploma in gerontology. When she emigrated to Canada from the UK in 2008, she worked for Northern Health as a nurse and supported public health information systems, before moving to a role coordinating home care services with the Haisla Nation.

Layton Engwer

Layton has been a patient partner for a little over 3 years in primary care, and brings to the role a health care career and a family’s worth of experience as a consumer of health care. He sits on way too many committees (his words) ranging from local workflow/strategy development to the  provincial advisory committee on team based care. He is the chair of the patient sponsored  Primary Care Patient Voices  group made up of patient partners from across the province to support its membership and to provide a broad base for commentary on provincial/regional policy or strategy.
