BC Health Quality Network

As part of its role to provide system-wide leadership and coordination, the Council developed a network of health care organizations: the BC Health Quality Network (HQN).

The HQN provides an active forum for over 30 organizations across BC who share an interest in health quality improvement and patient safety. Members, including BC’s health authorities, universities, professional associations and health quality groups meet quarterly to share information and collaborate on issues of common interest.

We have also established two subgroups of the HQN:

  • Communications Working Group
We support the Communications Working Group, which includes representatives who are working throughout BC’s health system in quality improvement, patient safety or communications roles, as well as a patient representative. The group identifies, recommends, and implements communications opportunities and strategies to raise awareness of patient safety and quality initiatives taking place throughout BC.
  • Quality and Safety Post-secondary Academic Working Group
Post-secondary institutions that train medical and health professionals have an important role in ensuring that BC’s workforce has the knowledge, skills and resources to support health quality on the job. We are supporting this working group’s establishment so that it can expand awareness amongst post-secondary educators and students about quality and safety activities that is sustainable and inclusive of key partners; enhance the sharing of information between health authorities, researchers and post-secondary health education programs; and provide stewardship for beginning development of tools/resources to support curricular enhancements.

For more information about the HQN please refer to our Terms of Reference. Learn more about its history in our 2010 report, Great Strides on the Path to Quality.
