Duncan Campbell

Duncan Campbell is an independent, quality-driven consultant focused on health system performance and improvement.

As Chief Financial Officer for Alberta Health Services from 2013 to 2014 he focused on improving performance and re-investing efficiency savings into quality improvement initiatives.

From 2008 to 2013 Duncan was the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Systems Development and Performance for Vancouver Coastal Health, a $3bn integrated health organization.

He played a key role in turning around financial and operational performance, without cutting services, through a focus on quality, workforce efficiencies, administration cost reduction, cash management and investing in staffing and real-­‐time decision support tools.

He previously held executive level turnaround and merger integration consulting positions at Deloitte, Gemini Consulting and IBM (formerly PwC Consulting), as well as holding the Chief Financial Officer position for a 500 store retail footwear chain in South Africa.

He was awarded the Business in Vancouver CFO of the Year award in 2011 for Transformational Leadership and Deloitte Alumni award in 2011 for Leadership.

Duncan is committed to educating future health leaders and is a finance lecturer on the BC Physician Leadership course as well as a guest lecturer on the Sauder EMBA course. He was a speaker at the 2013 Quality Forum on “Improving System Performance: Making the Most of Our Resources.”

Duncan holds a Bachelor of Accounting and Master of Business Administration from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa and in Canada.
