Andrew joined the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council in July 2009 as a Quality Leader. Prior to joining the Council, Andrew spent several years working in the biotechnology industry, including work as a research assistant with the BC Cancer Research Centre and, most recently, the BC Ministry of Health Services.
During his time with the Ministry, Andrew contributed on a number of projects including the development of a provincial patient safety framework and the evolution of the patient safety portfolio. With responsibility for infection prevention and control and the reprocessing of medical devices, he successfully managed complex initiatives and worked to develop collaborative partnerships with health system stakeholders.
Andrew’s passion for patient safety and quality improvement, accompanied by his proven project management abilities, assists the Council in achieving its mandate of fostering quality improvement across the continuum of care. He is particularly interested in the development of learning opportunities for quality improvement, mechanisms of innovation spread and public accountability of the health care system. To this end, Andrew was instrumental in establishing the Council’s Quality Academy, a six-month professional development program.
Andrew holds a Masters in Health Administration from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Victoria, in addition to completing courses in Project Management, Government Financial Control, Labour Relations, Human Resource Management and Leadership.
