Maria joined the Council in July 2017 as Program Assistant for the Learning & Strategic Initiatives department. In her previous role, she worked on both the philanthropy and service delivery side as an administrative assistant with the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation. Through this work, she gained a holistic exposure to non-profit work in the health care sector, specifically with the provision of an innovative model for HIV care targeted at individuals living with multiple socio-economic vulnerabilities.

She is deeply passionate about creating inclusive community impact, in particular working towards the reduction of socio-economic inequalities and disparity. Her interest in the field of international development took her to conduct a field course in monitoring and evaluation of development projects in Bogor, Indonesia. She also completed a trade internship with the Embassy of Canada in Santiago, Chile, where she completed a business guide in both English and French for Canadian companies investing in Chile.

Maria holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on International Relations, Food and Resource Economics and Political Science from the University of British Columbia. She is currently working to obtain her credentials as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute. She loves learning languages and history, and enjoys spending time outdoors as well as trying all the different cuisines that Vancouver offers!
