Tom Wallace

Clinical Lead, Surgical Improvement


Tom is a general surgeon at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops, BC. He completed undergraduate training in Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University. After this, he attended medical school at Dalhousie University prior to completing a General Surgery Residency at the University of Alberta. Tom is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Surgeons. He practices a broad range of general surgery at RIH and his clinical areas of interest include colorectal surgery and minimally invasive surgery.

Tom is active in patient safety and quality improvement work. His experience includes acting as the Surgeon Champion for the National Surgery Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) and acting as the team leader for the Enhanced Recovery After Colon Surgery initiative at RIH.

Tom is currently completing a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Ottawa while pursuing a Masters in Patient Safety and Clinical Human Factors from the University of Edinburgh. When Tom isn’t away for his studies, he enjoys an active life with his family in Kamloops, BC.
