Happy Holidays

As 2019 draws to a close, we’d like to reflect on all the fantastic improvement work that has taken place in BC, and wish you happy holidays and a bright start to the new year.

This year has been full of growth for our health care quality community, and we’re grateful that we’ve been able to connect with you through our events, newsletters, learning programs and more. We look forward to bringing you even more news and ideas in 2020.

Looking back at 2019, there are a few standout resources that left us feeling inspired. Read, watch or listen to these pieces while you gear up for the new year and get ready to continue the important work of ensuring high quality care throughout our health care system. Enjoy!

Sickboy Podcast
Sickboy began when Jeremie Saunders, Taylor MacGillivary and Brian Stever recognized that when faced with difficult situations, illnesses and diseases, people tighten up, get awkward and simply don’t know what to say. Taking the lead from Jeremie’s lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis, they use this podcast to help people understand that sometimes the best way to deal with illness, disease and life is simply to laugh. Jeremie, Taylor and Brian will also take the stage at Quality Forum 2020Listen here.

To Err Is Human
This patient safety documentary investigates medical mistakes, which lead to as many as 440,000 preventable deaths every year. The film looks at those who are working behind the scenes to create a new age of patient safety. Watch the film.

#ConquerSilence
Every year 28,000 Canadians die from preventable health care harm, and silence plays a major role. This site, created by Canadian Patient Safety Institute, documents the experiences of patients across Canada who are sharing their stories about patient harm. Listen to their stories.

The BMJ Christmas Issue
The BMJ Christmas issue is one of our favourite holiday traditions! This year’s Christmas issue includes graphic pathography, an article on the cultivation of kindness, a feature piece on what brings doctors joy at work and so much more! Read the issue.
