We’re pleased to announce that Syexwáliya / Ann Whonnock has joined our team as a Knowledge Keeper. Syexwáliya is an Elder and Knowledge Carrier from Squamish Nation and a Knowledge Keeper/Elder Advisor with the First Nations Health Authority. She has strong Indigenous worldviews and is widely respected and acknowledged for her work and energy commitment to her community.

You may recognize Syexwáliya from many of our past events, where she often shares knowledge and welcomes participants through storytelling and song. She has guided our journey as an organization, particularly around cultural safety and humility, for many years now. We’re so grateful for the wisdom, advice and knowledge that she shares as we learn about and honour the Indigenous history of our province while helping to create a better tomorrow for Indigenous Peoples.

As a Knowledge Keeper, Syexwáliya will continue sharing ancestral knowledge and traditional teachings and help guide our ongoing journey towards cultural safety and humility.

We’re excited to welcome Syexwáliya to the team and we are thankful to have her by our side as we work to build a health care system free of discrimination, with relationships based on mutual respect and trust.
