Webinar Description

Commonly used approaches to assessing programs and services (audit, monitoring, evaluation, research and quality improvement) are often ill-defined and conflated in health care, both in the literature and in practice. Our team created a framework highlighting the distinctive features of the approaches, and where they overlap, with the aim of fostering a more comprehensive understanding of the approaches and how they can be leveraged to provide value to health care organizations. In this presentation, we will reflect on our recent experience of bringing together these approaches during the implementation of new clinical practices and a shared electronic health record at Lions Gate and Squamish General Hospitals. We will discuss how the framework helped us to clarify roles and develop relationships with Decision Support, Quality, and Clinical Informatics to monitor the progress of the implementation, work towards quality improvement in how the system is implemented, and gather rich data for the evaluation.

Presenter

Dr. Beth Snow is the Head of Program Evaluation at the Centre for Health Evaluation & Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS) in Vancouver and leading the evaluation of the Clinical & Systems Transformation Project, a joint undertaking of Vancouver Coastal Health, Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care.
