COVID-19 Through a Quality Lens: Innovative Approaches to Substance Use Care During a Pandemic | 2020-08-24

What happens when a pandemic meets an existing public health emergency? Challenges faced by people who use substances in BC have been amplified in the context of COVID-19. The BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU), in collaboration with the provincial government, regional partners and community stakeholders, developed an approach to support continuity of care for those engaged in treatment, including interim clinical guidance outlining innovative strategies to mitigate risks during dual public health emergencies.

In this webinar, you will learn how interim clinical guidance:

  • Was developed to mitigate risks for people who use substances and optimize existing treatment pathways and offer novel approaches
  •  Was disseminated through a variety of channels at regional, provincial and national levels, including adapting virtual seminars
  • Is impacting quality of care for people who use substances and how this translates to future opportunities for improvement
  • Key lessons learned will also be presented, which  could support others in implementing rapid clinical guidance in the post-pandemic era
