Creating a Great Abstract for Your QI Work
How can we ensure our quality improvement efforts are leading to system-wide benefits? An important part of this process is sharing our results and lessons learned with others. One great way of doing this is presenting your QI project at a local, provincial, or even a national conference. Most often, to apply to present at a conference, you will be asked to submit an abstract. This is an important and sometimes intimidating step of the application process.
This Quality Café is for anyone thinking about submitting an abstract to present the results of their quality improvement project, or a novel idea of how to improve care, at an upcoming conference (such as BCPSQC’s 2019 Quality Forum!). During the session, participants will learn about:
- the different parts of an abstract;
- how to prepare for the writing process;
- how to avoid some common downfalls; and
- tips on increasing your chances of having your abstract accepted!
Writing an efficient and compelling abstract can be hard work, but the opportunity to share your QI story will repay you in its positive impact on patients and the health care system. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with potential collaborators who can help you advance your work!
