Lisa Sam – Working Myself Out of a Job Through Patient Empowerment

We asked Lisa Sam, a Community Health Nurse at BC’s Nak’azdli and Tl’azt’en Health Centres, to tell us and a few hundred of our friends about her hopes for health care. She did so through a Pecha Kucha presentation at Health Talks on February 26, 2014.

Lisa is a member of the Lusilyoo (Frog) Clan from the community of Nak’azdli, which is located in Fort Saint James, and she loves her work. She does all the normal tasks of a CHN working to prevent illness but she likes to do things with a spin. Lisa loves educating people about health, not only about their physical bodies but also about how everything is inter-related. How we need a balance between all aspects of health in order to be truly healthy, and how this applies not only to the individual but also to the family and the community as a whole.
